Stefano Mauri's Nightmare GOAL Made Lazio Lead Serie A.
Lazio moved to the top of the Serie A table with a narrow win over 10-man Brescia this afternoon.
Stefano Mauri's solitary goal on the stroke of half-time was the difference between the two sides at the Stadio Olimpico.Brescia's task grew harder when Alessandro Diamanti was sent off after 74 minutes for two yellow cards. The win, Lazio's fourth of the campaign, has lifted the Romans two points clear of AC Milan and three points above Inter Milan, who host Juventus later tonight.
Lazio coach Eddy Reja will also be pleased as his team kept a clean sheet for the second straight game. The home side dominated possession and first tested Matteo Sereni in the 18th minute when Christian Brocchi's 30-yard bullet strike forced the Brescia goalkeeper to dive to his right to clear.
With Brescia struggling to break Lazio's well-placed defence, Diamanti tried his luck from distance and his powerful volley went high and wide.In the 35th minute, Mauro Zarate warmed the palms of Sereni with his curled free-kick forcing a fine save from the goalkeeper.Lazio's efforts paid off before the break. Hernanes served Mauri inside the area and his left-footed strike towards the far post beat Sereni.
Brescia came out with a little more fight after the break and almost restored parity on the hour mark.Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Muslera had to be at his best to pull off a fine stop to repel Eder's diagonal effort which was destined for the left corner.
Lazio should have doubled their lead in the 83rd minute but Sergio Floccari's 10-yard header lacked power and proved an easy save for Sereni.Brescia had the last chance of the game with one minute remaining.Perparim Hetemaj struck just wide of the far post from a difficult angle as Lazio held on for victory.
